Prosecutors seek to try 15-year-old Central High shooter as adult:

Prosecutors have filed a petition to have Jamar Siler tried as an adult in the shooting death of Ryan McDonald.

The decision on whether Siler rates transfer to the adult court system rests solely with Irwin and could mean the difference between a few years of punishment and rehabilitation efforts in a juvenile facility and a minimum 51-year sentence in a state prison.

Under the law, Irwin must consider two key things – is Siler committable to a mental health facility and, if not, are there programs within the juvenile justice system to rehabilitate Siler.

No and no. Cue the whiners.

    Wow what great logic you used. I must have missed it, it was so quick. You still haven’t told me the recidism rate of teen crimes. I am guessing they don’t kill all that often seeing as how all you have reported is gun and drug crimes. Not exactly murder.

    Well do you know of one person who committed murder as a teen, went to jail, then committed murder again. You would think we would at least know of one, and if the rate is that high you would think we would know of at least a few.

    You’re kidding right? In the 90’s kids would go to juvie for vicious murders and get turned out on the streets the moment they hit 18 with a sealed record and a new lease on life. Society doesn’t baby these killers and rapists as much as we used to, I assume there’s a reason for that.

    If there’s one thing you learn in prison, it’s how to be a more effective criminal offender. Mr. Potato Head is just stuck on the idea that they are innocent widdle children. When they get released they are innocent widdle adults with felony records and no future prospects above the $6.50 an hour pay bracket. So they re-offend. Rinse and repeat.

    First off, no they don’t have felony record when they released when they are tried as children. So you would agree that sending a boy up state for 15 years instead of an RTC for 5 years is a dumb idea? As you said it makes them better criminals. Would a RTC really make you a better criminal. Would giving them a decent education make them a better criminal? So why persecute kids like Thomas White to the max, when it will just make them A) crazier and B) better criminals.

    I can’t even follow your logic anymore. So I won’t even try. I’ve been inside facilities for violent juvenile offenders, not as an employee per-se, but as an independent contractor. I never interacted with the prisoners directly, but I did witness a couple of classes in session, which are below remedial levels (surprise) and probably don’t do much for the kids.Did you know that so-called “high-functioning autism” is currently unrecognized by DSM-IV as a diagnosis? That means you could be case zero in the understanding of “high-functioning autism” also known as “lettuce head thinking”. Don’t delay, volunteer for experimental pharmaceuticals today!
