Prosecutors: Woman answering Craigslist ad sexually assaulted:

A 24-year-old California woman responded to a craigslist ad for a room for rent. Except the man who placed the ad wasn’t looking for a tenant or a roommate. He was looking for a victim.

48-year-old Corey Kamyar Katir of Corona del Mar is accused of sexually assaulting the woman after she went to take a look at the residence.

According to prosecutors, Katir sat next to the woman on the couch, and began rubbing her shoulders and kissing her. When the woman got up and tried to leave, Katir grabbed her hand, pulled her into the bedroom, and used the weight of his body to push her onto the bed, prosecutors say.

Holding the woman down, Katir is accused of fondling the woman and making her fondle him.

craigslist, as usual, plays the ‘poor us’ card saying they don’t have enough staff to review every ad for legitimacy.

This is why I think that the craigslist bigwigs are so into charity. They may think it’s a way of absolving themselves from all their corporate irresponsibility.

UPDATE 3/21/09: Katir pleaded no contest and was given 90 days and five years probation.
