Schallenberger expected to use insanity defense:
Attorneys for Ryan Schallenberger plan on using an insanity defense in their client’s bombing plot trial.
If you’ll recall Schallenberger was arrested after ordering ammonium nitrate through the mail allegedly in order to blow up Chesterfield High School in South Carolina.
I’m not surprised they’re using the insanity defense considering Schallenberger allegedly wanted to kill Jesus.
However, the insanity defense rests on whether or not Schallenberger knew what he was doing was wrong and I’m not so sure he did. This is one of the few instances where I actually think that the suspect did not actually know what he was doing was wrong. As far as I can tell he made little to no effort to cover up his plot.
But again this doesn’t mean that I think he should be released back into society. He’s obviously a danger not only to himself but those around him. He definitely needs a lengthy stay in a padded room.
