Mo. Attorney General Investigating Craigslist:

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster was one of the Attorneys General who also foolishly, in my opinion, entered into an agreement with craigslist thinking that they would actually do something about their erotic services section. Now he is demanding a meeting with representatives from craigslist in the next two weeks. He is also launching an investigation into craigslist but what that investigation entails is as of yet unknown.

Again I have to ask where he was before the murder of Julissa Brisman. It’s amazing how the media can dictate public policy when I’ve been screaming this from the rooftops for over two years. But hey I’m just some blogger.

  1. Katherine Ann Olson was white too and the national outrage was slim to none.

  2. I think gender may have something to do with it rather than race because a man was killed in Arlington, Virginia after an erotic services rendezvous but it didn’t even make a blip on the national media radar.

  3. But Julissa is a pretty white woman who wasn’t a dirty whore, some kind of addict or gay, so her murder deserves more attention and action. We can’t have someone’s business going around killing our pretty white girls, can we? ::spits::

  4. Ok, good point. All I can think is that Katherine’s death was – at the time – viewed as something of an aberration, since it was the first or at least one of the first deaths to be associated with Craigslist. The other is that her death was associated with the employment ads which, sad to say, are going to get the same attention as someone killed in connection with using the “erotic services” section. You can build so many little stories and “discussions” (or what passes for discussion on most news stations and sites) around what constitutes “erotic services” and if Craigslist should even have such a section. There’s less ancillary banter that can be done about employment ads, so they’re just not as “sexy” (aka “newsworthy”)

  5. Oops – that 4th line should read “associated with the employment ads which, sad to say, aren’t going to get the” Sorry about that!

  6. It might be that females are more easily and often perceived to be victims, even when they have connections, direct or circuitous, to the erotic services section. Pimps and johns are perceived as the victimizers. It’s really not that hard to figure out why females get the coverage — they make for better stories.
