This is the blog post on craigslist’s official blog from craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster about the new adult services section that’s supposed to be replacing the infamous erotic services section.
He says that this will only apply to US versions of craigslist. So, for instance, the Toronto craigslist still has an erotic services section.
He’s still trying to push the misconception, in my opinion, that print classifieds are more rife with crime than craigslist. Like I said before given the amount of time newspapers have been around I’m sure craigslist’s crime numbers will catch up and exceed print classifieds’ numbers.
Now, this part is just laughable…
Community moderation as exemplified by our flagging system is arguably the most successful system ever conceived for eliminating inappropriate activity from a massive internet community.
Again how many times can I say that as far as the erotic services section went that’s just the inmates running the asylum?
More from Jim…
We are optimistic that the new balance struck today will be an acceptable compromise from the perspective of these constituencies, and for the diverse US communities that value and rely upon craigslist.
Only time will tell Jimmy. If the AGs won’t be watching, I will.
