9-year-old solicited on Web site for children:

A 9-year-old girl from my current hometown Charlotte, North Carolina was solicited over the live streaming video site BlogTV. Not only that but it was in their supposedly kid-friendly section called BlogTV Junior. A man who was watching the girl’s broadcast allegedly asked the girl to take off her clothes.

The family had a local news crew come to their house to show them what happens on the site.

The girl’s parents showed us how it works. After logging on, we saw a young girl broadcasting from somewhere.

Almost instantly, an online user writes: “What are you wearing? Can I see the pants? Lower the cam.”

Why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, it’s the same thing that happens on Stickam.

Speaking of Stickam, BlogTV had a similar response when contacted by the news station…

“The live broadcasts in the junior section are monitored 24/7. If there are any problems in the chat, the broadcaster and other viewers can flag the show or contact the moderation team. A moderator is sent to the room within a matter of moments.”

Yet another website with the ‘inmates running the asylum’ philosophy. After a “matter of moments,” it may already be too late.

The man who solicited the girl is being investigated.

Personally, if I had a 9-year-old daughter she wouldn’t even be allowed near a webcam.

    9 years old on a webcam? While I think websites like that are completely dangerous, especially for kids, there is no way a 9 year old should have been on a webcam. Where were mom and dad?

    Every new advance in technolgy makes it easier for pedophiles.

    But yeah, 9 year olds with webcams is ridiculous. No way in hell would my 9 year old kid have a webcam.

    I agree, Rob. Technology advances are great, but it does give pedophiles much more access to victims. And I don’t want to blame the parents entirely because it’s the pervs fault, but as parents, we have to know that we have GOT to supervise anything our kids do. Especially the internet.

    Having to deal with harrassment is the BEST thing that can learn to a kid. It’s called learning to defend yourself. That’s why humankind is still thriving and how our grandparents learned to live in this world.

    If you put kids into a fake aseptic world where all threats, risks and real life moments have been wiped out by bigoted parents, they will kill themselves as soon as they will learn how the world really works. You don’t learn to deal with the harsh reality by turning 18, this is fairytale retarded, just like you don’t learn to swim by practicing on an empty pool and never allowing water in.

    Harassment from peers in real life is way worse than harassment from whatever sick person miles away on a computer. Kids know how to defend themselves in such situations, and if they don’t it’s their parent faults.

    If a kid can’t be trusted, can’t be considered able to wise choice, can’t defend themselves then their parents should feel like failures for not teaching them the only important things they could really teach them. No parent should strive to make his or her child a weak-minded worm.
    And people become stronger by dealing with problems, but by having them unnaturally censored from their life, reaching 18 living in a bland boring trivial la la land, and freaking out when they found out how they world really works.

    I know people like that, people that were treated like small babies incapable of thinking and defending themselves, people who had to endure unbelievable paternalism and suffucating overprotectiong. They’re not in a good state.
    They mostly are insicure, scared, nevrotic individuals who need to see a psychiatrist twice per week. Most of them will commit suicide and it will be nothing by their parent’s fault. Kids are not babies, the world is not a teletubbies episode and it’s the world they live, and they need to know it and learn how it works, the sooner the better. Their life will be longer and happied and their youth years will be less riddled with anxiety

    By the way: 9 year old boys will solicit this 9 year old girl more times than the older people will. The belief that age segregation and being with same age people is safer is poor nonsense.
    Safety is being with people you trust and that respect you, not with people of X age instead of people of Y age.
