Man took photos, touched girl inappropriately:

59-year-old Stephen A. Burks of La Conner, Washington was convicted of taking explicit pictures of an underage girl and posting them on MySpace, touching her inappropriately and showing her kiddy porn. So what does he get for his troubles? Not a whole lot…

Skagit County Superior Court Judge Mike Rickert ordered Stephen A. Burks to six months in the Skagit County Jail and to complete the special sex offender sentencing alternative, which could take three or four years.

If Burks fails any of the treatment program, he will be sent to prison for 10 years, the maximum in his sentencing range, Rickert said during the hearing Thursday.

Burks is eligible for a work release program while he is at the jail.

That’s the problem with child molesters is that there are really no repercussions for their actions when there are joke sentences like this. Child molesters can not be rehabilitated and as far as I’m concerned should be thrown in a dark hole never to be heard from again.

  1. Let’s take a full page ad out in his local paper … then he will get what is coming to him

  2. I’ve got no problem with letting child molesters off with just probation….as long as you shoot them in the head a couple of times first.

  3. Child molesters and sex offenders run rampant in this country, just look up your zipcode on the database. It’s ridiculous how many of them are out there, and NOT in prison.

Letting these scumbags operate in society is dangerous, and a lot of the sentences are far to light if they even get arrested at all.

Google the name “Jack McLellen” sometime and see what you come up with. In my opinion, he’s one of the most dangerous people in America yet he continues to be able to live in society amongst children.

  4. Edit: Make that “Jack McLellan.” For years he ran “legal” websites that informed you of the best places to meet “attractive” children.

  5. I think the judges should sit long and hard and think about what they’d want a judge to do if these scumbags did this to THEIR children.

  6. Normally I don’t have any sympathy for sex offenders but in this case, I know this family personally and believe he got a very raw deal. This man was set up by the girl, his niece, who was visiting at the home she shares with his wife, and, at the time, his oldest son was living there also. She is a very troubled teen. He walked into his home office and she was on his computer, putting inappropriate photos of herself onto her MySpace. When he threatened to tell her mom if she didn’t remove the photos, she didn’t want to get in to trouble with her mom so she made up this story. He took this plea deal to avoid a trial and get back to his care for his ailing wife as soon as possible. Please don’t condemn what you don’t know.

  7. Do you have proof of this scenario, Skeets, or is this just what he is telling everybody? Sounds kind of phony, to me. Who took the pics of the girl? Did she take them herself? The article says, “convicted of taking explicit pictures of an underage girl and posting them on MySpace, touching her inappropriately and showing her kiddy porn.”

If he was convicted of all of these charges, there had to be at least a little proof to back up that conviction. A DA will usually not even take a case like this to court without enough proof to make it a ‘slam-dunk’ trial. Are you sure that your personal involvement with the family is not clouding your judgment on this one?

  8. Right, he’s innocent…. Aren’t they all? I’m not buying that story Skeets, and sorry you have.

  9. though an innocent man may get falsely convicted from time to time, i’m much more comfortable with a minute number of men getting a bad wrap than a majority twisted f*cks slipping through the crack or being lightly reprimanded. I’ve never been one to condone the death penatly, i”ve always felt it’s best not to jugde. But when a sick creature seeks to steal the innocents of a child we either put them into the general population of the worlds most dangerous prinsons, or reinstate concentration camps, and eraticate every single one of them.

  10. I agree with you, John. You cannot rehabilitate someone who has such proclivities. They are broken, and no amount of counseling can help them to acquire what their genetic material left out.

  11. not only did this man get the “bad wrap” as i agree that everyone should get to know the full story. . and of all the things that go on today, the medias version of a story is definetely not one i take too seriously. The stories fail to mention the girl’s mom wants to take him for “all he’s got” which isn’t much. and his wife is dieing of alzheimers right before the families eyes. This man has never even had a parking ticket. . and now due to someone who needs “attention” is paying the price at the cost of “the system” makes me sad. . . . . and hope one day this doesn’t happen to anyone else who could just be standing there

  12. angel: there was plenty of proof, she took the pictures herself, she still posts them to this day on her myspace page, and he did take the wrap for anything found on his household computer with teenage boys and friends living there. the law said plead guilty to go home, if you don’t and go to trial you will go to prison, so he did what he had to to get home to his family even though every ounce of him wanted to fight it. . . . and yet he’s still not home. . . . it’s a lose lose situation for HIM. if you knew “her” you would know this too. ..

  13. Parking tickets? Last I heard, it wasn’t necessary to be a bad driver in order to be a child molester.

I agree, there are girls out there who will lie for attention. But I can’t think of any reason a man would plead guilty to such charges if they were false. Especially if, as you say, there was ‘proof’ that the girl made it all up and took the pics herself. If you believe so strongly in his innocence, then why didn’t you have a fund raiser to raise the money for his defense? I still believe that no DA would take a case like this to court without irrefutable proof to back it up. Cases like this are too hard to win for a DA to risk an acquittal.

  14. So basically it sounds like you are a one man band wagon. . for a man you may or may not know.. . using small town gossip, or biased news paper articles to form an opinion. Whatever the case may be it proves my point as to why this man is stuck in the system. If people were more educated, or minded their own business it would prove more productive then castrating a person and a situation which you are sadly informed. And a troubled little girl vieying for attention however YOU may see the situation and whatever actions he took to get home sooner is the REAL story. and it’s people like you that form opinions without knowing facts that people plead a certain way and can’t go to trial and be tried fairly which is the reason this route was taken. Thank you for proving societys point. End of Discussion

  15. Sad:
Without knowing facts? The fact is….HE PLEAD GUILTY. That is the only fact in evidence for the general public to consider. There was no trial, there was no evidence presented. He plead guilty. What other ‘facts’ are there? None. Just your word – and I have no idea who you even are. So I should take your word on this situation exactly….why? Right.

I didn’t say you were wrong. I said there is not enough evidence to prove you right. If you have proof…then share it, by all means. But don’t tell me I have to believe you just because you know the people involved, and he is a ‘great guy’. According to friends and relatives, 90% of convicted rapists are ‘great guys’. Put up or shut up. If you have the proof, I would love to see it…but I think all you have is your opinion, backed by what the ‘great guy’ told you. Give me a freakin’ break.

As I said…you may very well BE right…but the only ‘facts’ I have seen suggest otherwise.

  16. Why doesn’t these kids get repromanded for putting sex pics on sites..I’m talking girls..I’m not oredudice ..but the men get all the rap..its time the law starts prosecuting them too!
