Merrick teacher pleads not guilty in rape of girl, 15:

28-year-old Daniel Rothbard of Merrick, New York on Long Island has been arrested and has pleaded not guilty to charges of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Rothbard allegedly used the screen names of “DJ” and “D to the J” on MySpace and posed as a 17-year-old boy to get into the pants of a 15-year-old girl. The pair were found by police in West Islip having sex in a car.

Did I mention that Rothbard is an elementary school teacher? It’s a wonder he wasn’t having sex with one of his students, that we know of.

And is it me or does he look like the stereotypical Long Island douchebag? You know the type. No offense to the rest of Long Island.

I know Danny and he couldn’t be less of a typical LI douche. He is humble, sad and respectful of people (I guess just not of himself or the law) I can’t defend him, but he is not some greasy, over-gelled, Gotti-wannabe. I would probably look like a douchebag in my mugshot too.

Apparently he wasn’t respectful of the 15 year old either….and probably the only reason he’s sad, is because he got caught.

He, like all of these other teachers (male AND female), who prey on children, should be given much harsher sentences than what is currently recommended. Not only are they preying on children – they are using their position of authority to facilitate their crimes. Punishment for these predators should reflect the seriousness of the crime, and, I’m sorry, but probation or a couple of years in jail just doesn’t even come close to that ideal.

He’s also apparently not respectful of his wife or family either. Which is pretty typical of a douche bag to not care how they’re affecting their family by fucking fifteen year old girls.

I know Daniel from the time he was a little boy. He was adorable and a very smart child. He was brought up in an wonderful loving home. This situation is totally out of character. I hope that the truth comes out. Maybe something went wrong in his past that no one is aware of. Acts like this do reflect in someone being violated with supressed facts.
My prayers are with the family and I support all of them during this very unknown time….

I worked with Danny at Rolling River Day Camp from 1999 – 2002. He was all about camp… a little too much about camp. I never had a problem with the guy, but he wasn’t the type of dude that I wanted to hang out with after hours either.

What I learned from working at summer camps is that sometimes the line between the YOUNG adult world and adult world can get skewed… this is especially true for those individuals who are innately immature. That certainly describes the Danny that I knew. He wanted to always be around kids because he was a big kid himself.

Danny was no rocket scientist. He was a guy of average intelligence at best. He fell in to the trap of getting sucked in to a world of kid drama by surrounding himself with them 365 days of the year. He wasn’t smart enough to keep himself in check when his emotions and penis got the best of him…. he threw it all away for a sorry piece of 15-year-old . That is the bottom line.

Wow! Way to blame the victim! The ‘sorry’ part of this equation is the one who took advantage of a minor. That would be Danny-boy. He was trolling the internet, and lying about his age, in order to find underage girls. Being immature has nothing to do with it. He is a child predator. He deliberately set out to cultivate a relationship with someone whom he knew to be underage. He didn’t get ‘sucked in’, as you so blithely put it, he jumped in enthusiastically with both feet. You need to reevaluate your priorities.
