Middle-school teacher faces sex charge:

Creepy McFlannel over there is 56-year-old Clifford Holloway, a middle school teacher from Meridian, Mississippi. He’s been arrested for traveling to have sex with an underage girl in Pensacola, Florida. The girl in question was actually an undercover cop.

Police were tipped off when a Pensacola woman found that her 16-year-old daughter had been having inappropriate conversations with Holloway over MySpace. The girl allegedly had sex with Holloway in area motels and the pair had exchanged nude pics.

In case you were wondering Holloway is/was a gym teacher adding to the stereotype.

I don’t understand why a 16 year old would be attracted to a man that old, but should this be a crime? And yes, this is creepy in that it violates our cultural norms.

The age of consent in the US ranges from the age of 14 to the age of 18. So this activity would not have been illegal in many jurisdictions in the US if he hadn’t crossed state borkders and if the younger person wasn’t a student of his.

According to an article I read awhile back in the NY Times most adolescent psychologists believe that the age should be 15. Many sex experts that I have read strongly reject the notion that just because an older adult has a relationship with a younger adult that it is inherently harmful.

As a parent I wouldn’t want my daughter to be involved but this should not be a governmental matter. We need to base all our laws regarding human sexuality on science, reason, empirical evidence and rational discussion and not on fear, religious doctrine and media caused panic. I encourage everyone to read the books by Marty Klein and Judith Levine.

umm i disagree.
its one thing to be 16 years old dating an
18 or 19 year old. but when youre 16
and having sex with a freaking 50 year old man..
i dont care if she consented or not. thats disgusting.
