Bill to ban social networking for sex offenders:

Some California politicians got together and sponsored a bill that would target registered sex offenders on social networking sites. This time the politicians in question are Assemblywoman Norma Torres and San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris.

Assembly Bill 2208 is aimed at barring registered sex offenders from having social networking profiles. However, it doesn’t require them to surrender their e-mail addresses. Not to mention it doesn’t address the threat of unregistered sexual predators nor does it tell parents to do their damn job.

Ms. Harris said it will offer a deterrent to sex offenders who do not want to return to jail. Do you know what really deters sex offenders from returning to jail? Not letting them out in the first place.

Ms. Harris is no stranger to these pages as I blogged about her in 2004 for not pursuing the death penalty for a cop killer.

Just more bad legislation intended to garner votes from stupid parents.
