Craigslist rapist receives same sentence as man who solicited assault:
The other day I posted about how James Jebidiah Stipe was sentenced to 60 years for posting an ad on craigslist posing as his ex saying that she wanted a man to help her participate in a rape fantasy.
On Wednesday the actual rapist, Ty Oliver McDowell, was also sentenced to 60 years for raping the Casper, Wyoming woman.
While I did hear that McDowell not only raped her but also raped her with a foreign object that object turned out to be a knife sharpener. McDowell also struck her repeatedly and left her bound in her home after the rape.
McDowell’s parents testified that he had an internet porn addiction. While this is obviously not an excuse for committing such a brutal rape I’m not surprised. Considering that he believed a woman was actually into a rape fantasy and advertised about it on craigslist he seems like one of those guys I used to see in webcam rooms while I was doing research for other crimes that would think that women were actually interested in seeing his junk. Sorry for the run-on sentence.
While I think the internet is the greatest invention of my lifetime unfortunately it’s breeding a brand of perverts who think that everything on the internet is true including women who solicit rape fantasies on craigslist. In my opinion, the odds are almost 100% that the woman requesting a rape fantasy on craigslist is actually a guy trying to get revenge on the woman.
If craigslist got rid of their perceived notion of anonymity it would cut down on these types of revenge crimes.
