Reporter’s Sex-Trafficking Questions Silences Craigslist Founder:
I’ve posted before about how craigslist founder Craig Newmark was stunned into silence by CNN reporter Amber Lyon when she approached him with sex ads from craigslist. In case you missed it you can see the video here.
In this article from CBS News this is what a craigslist ‘spokeswoman’, probably Susan MacTavish said in an e-mail to CBS…
In an e-mailed statement to CBSNews.com, a spokeswoman wrote that the reporter “approached Craig under false pretenses for this “ambush” interview. It was a direct violation of the Society of Professional Journalists code of ethics which states that a journalist should “Avoid undercover or other surreptitious methods of gathering information except when traditional open methods will not yield information vital to the public.”
Considering how much both Buckmaster and Newmark hem and haw when it comes to the issues of prostitution and human trafficking I would most definitely say that traditional open methods have not yielded information.
Again I have to point out the irony since Mr. Newmark is so interested in transparency in politics yet no transparency for the website he created.
I think Craig Newmark probably thinks of himself as a moral and mellow guy. He honestly cannot come to grips with the fact that he is personally getting rich on human trafficking and child prostitution. But lately when he talks about it, including on the CNN interview, you can tell he is having a major internal struggle. It’s understandable that he doesn’t want to admit that he has been inflicting horrific pain on people and getting rich in the process. I wish him the best – he needs to shut down the adult services section of the site. Period. Everything else is just participation in the selling of women and children to predators.

This is a ridiculous statement for him to have made. He refused every interview request Lyon made, and he has the nerve to call it an ambush? At least now he knows how it felt to be “ambushed,” just like the kidnapped teen girls that were ambushed, I mean kidnapped, and forced into prostitution, all thanks to Craig’s List not reporting the illegal activity. How dare he complain??
