In Massachusetts Middlesex Superior Court Judge S. Jane Haggerty ruled that John Odgren’s first-degree murder conviction will stand. That means for now Odgren will continue to serve his life sentence.
In 2007 at the age of 16 Odgren brutally stabbed and killed James Alenson in a bathroom at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
Again Odgren’s attorney argued that Odgren was not in his right mind at the time of the murder because he has Asperger’s syndrome. This is actually a great ruling for people who do have Asperger’s as it shows that just because they have this syndrome that it does not make them a murderer. If Odgren had walked or his sentence was reduced people would start looking at Asperger’s patients in an entirely different light.
Odgren was rightfully charged as an adult and was sentenced to life without parole. The people who think that no teen should ever be tried as an adult have their panties in a wad over this one. You can go back into the archives of this site and read how meticulously Odgren planned this murder and I’ll let you be the judge about that one however in my opinion justice was served.
