SD Man Accused of Making Explosives in Court, Friends Speak:

Back when I first posted about Joseph Thomas Hansen plotting an attack against Sisseton High School in Sisseton, South Dakota, I remarked that the bullying excuse would be coming. Well, here it is. Let’s hear from someone claiming to be a friend of Hansen.

“He just needs love and attention and the kids at that school didn’t give that to him. You know they made fun of him and I think that was kind of a defense thing he used against us,”

“I just say you gotta be his friend. You can’t just judge the outside. You just gotta go talk with him,”

Before everyone’s heart starts bleeding let’s remind ourselves that part of Hansen’s plot was to rape 30 women and that he was allegedly found to have been in possession of shotguns and bomb-making materials. Not to mention when the bullying excuse comes up I always have to wonder if he was bullied because he was such an anti-social sociopath. The real world sucks and some people do invite bullying on themselves. Also, I would hazard a guess that if he was successful in his plot his friend could have been one of his victims for all she knew.

However, as I’ve said before multiple times the correct response is not to commit mass murder.
