Missing prostitute feared to be one of four victims ‘Craigslist Killer’ dumped on a New York beach:

Back when I was being interviewed by the media about Julissa Brisman’s murder my brother suggested I should write a book, fiction specifically. The idea I came up with after his suggestion was a serial killer that used a site like craigslist in order to find his victims. It seems that idea was far from original.

On the beaches of Long Island, four bodies were found, at least two are believed to be prostitutes that advertised on craigslist. One of those victims may be Megan Waterman, the woman, and mother from Maine who disappeared from New York back in June.

Police were searching for another missing prostitute by the name of Shannon Gilbert but police do not believe that she is one of the bodies found.

Police in Atlantic City, NJ contacted investigators in Long Island to see if their unsolved serial killings of prostitutes were connected but now both departments believe they are unrelated.

It may be weeks before any of the victims are positively identified through DNA.

I wish I could say I’m surprised that this has happened. Prostitutes have long been the victims of serial killers going all the way back to Jack The Ripper. With craigslist formerly providing easy access to such women I’m surprised that grisly discoveries like this haven’t happened more often. Then again maybe they have and the bodies haven’t been found yet, especially with the amount of trafficked women that craigslist and now Backpage makes available to anybody with a phone. It’s like delivery for serial killers.

Prostitution is still going on at craigslist just not as much as previously. The pimps and prostitutes have moved to the casual encounters section and of course craigslist’s ‘loss’ has been Backpage’s gain.

If someone does, in fact, turn out to be the ‘Craigslist Serial Killer’ I doubt they’ll be the last.
