Former FAU police officer ordered held without bond in shooting of escort:

Police in Boynton Beach, Florida have arrested Jimmy Dac Ho (don’t make the joke, it’s neither original nor funny) in the shooting death of Backpage prostitute Sheri Carter, 29.

Ho is a former police officer in Lauderhill, Florida, Broward County, Florida, and Florida Atlantic University. In Lauderhill, he was involved in a wreck that killed a 74-year-old man. Ho was said to have been traveling at high speeds with no lights or sirens. Ho was let go from Broward County after being arrested for a disorderly conduct charge. And he resigned from FAU after being arrested for allegedly shooting Carter in the abdomen and neck. She was paralyzed from the waist down before she eventually succumbed to her injuries. Ho is being charged with first-degree murder.

Supposedly Ho is claiming self-defense in the shooting. He says that he felt he was being threatened and handcuffed her after she pulled a knife. Now to me, that sounds like he shot her after she had already been subdued. That doesn’t sound like self-defense to me. That sounds more like something a serial killer would do.

I’m not sure if Ho is the first but I notice that he’s not being referred to as the ‘Backpage Killer’? I wonder why that is. Is it because this happened in the media unfriendly state of Florida or is it because the media doesn’t want to offend another media outlet in the form of Village Voice Media.

Because Backpage allowed women to be sold on their site they were basically a catalog where Ho could find his victim.
