Camden Using New Crime Cameras:
The crime-infested city of Camden, New Jersey can’t afford to keep a full staff of police however it seems they can afford new surveillance cameras in the city called the ‘Eye in the Sky’ program. They are placing 51 of these cameras throughout the city.
The thought process going on in Camden city hall never ceases to amaze me. While this may sound like a great idea it isn’t. Cameras like this are supposed to work in conjunction with police, not in place of them. These cameras will in no way go towards discouraging crime. The only thing that they will do is maybe helping to identify possible suspects. Basically, whoever is watching the cameras will be able to see a crime but do nothing effective to be able to stop it in time. That’s why boots on the ground are needed more than cameras.
Why is the city even buying these with the lack of tax revenue they have. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone from city hall was related to whoever runs the camera company or is somehow personally financially involved.
