Appeals denied for man who shot, killed two Charlotte police officers:

In 2007 Demeatrius Montgomery shot and killed Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers Jeff Shelton and Sean Clark in Charlotte, North Carolina. Montgomery was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. He previously tried appealing his sentence stating that he received ineffective counsel and that he should have been ruled incompetent to stand trial. Thankfully those appeals were denied.

Most recently Montgomery had his last state-funded appeal denied as well. The only way he can file any more appeals is if he fronts the money himself. Unless some generous benefactor comes to his aid I don’t see that happening.

Montgomery was spared the death penalty when an investigating officer threw out his notes regarding the case then reproduced them. Officers Shelton and Clark’s death sentences unfortunately still stand.

  1. If a “generous benefactor” does come forward, let’s hope it’s to fund the education for these officers’ children and not to to get an obviously guilty man off the hook.
