Mass. Facebook fiend used modeling scam to entice teen

35-year-old Bairon Ubeda of Springfield, Massachusetts, allegedly used all the online sexual predator tropes in order to commit his crimes. Ubeda is accused of allegedly posing as a woman on Facebook and promising a 15-year-old girl a career in modeling in order to rape, exploit and traffic his victim.

The modeling scam is one of the more popular tricks used by online predators and traffickers. Predators targeting females love to prey upon their vanity or insecurities by making them believe they could be models. If you have kids who have any sort of aspirations of getting into modeling or even if they don’t you may want to remind them that the odds of them becoming a successful model are about the same as winning the lottery and that anybody can claim to be anything on the internet. Let them know that if an adult is circumventing their parents in order to talk to them then they’re up to no good.
