21-year-old Shaquan E. Smith is accused of allegedly kidnapping a 13-year-old girl who he met from Facebook. Smith is said to have tried signing the girl out of the Black Jack, Missouri, school by posing as her uncle before just running away from the school with the girl. The girl was gone for three days before authorities were able to catch up with Smith and the victim. No word on if any other crimes took place during those three days but it would be difficult to imagine that they didn’t.
I can’t even imagine how the girl’s family must have felt during the three days that she was gone. It must have been terrifying for them. Then to find out that she had spent them with a 21-year-old male.
Again, this is why you should always keep tabs on your child’s social networking activity no matter what platform they may be using. Also, parents should consider keeping their children’s devices, tablets, phones, etc., so predators like this can’t be in contact with your kids in your home. These devices could be an unguarded gateway giving direct access to your children.
