Butler High shooter released on bond

Butler High shooter released on bond
Jatwan Cuffie

If you’ll recall, back in October, 16-year-old Jatwan Cuffie was arrested for the shooting death of 16-year-old Bobby McKeithen in the halls of Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina. Cuffie has been charged as an adult and was originally charged with first-degree murder but the charges were reduced to second-degree murder since the shooting was not premeditated but arose from a dispute between Cuffie and friends of McKeithen.

Now more recently, Cuffie was released on $100,000 bond late last month. Under the terms of the bond agreement, Cuffie has to wear an ankle monitor and must remain under house arrest.

Even though the shooting wasn’t premeditated doesn’t change the fact that Cuffie brought a gun to school and used it to kill a fellow student. House arrest or not Cuffie is a killer who should have been held without bond. Having him out within the community puts the community at risk not only from Cuffie but from those possibly seeking revenge.
