13-year-old Erica Parsons of Salisbury, North Carolina went missing in 2011 but wasn’t reported missing until 2013. Casey and Sandy Parsons, Erica’s adoptive parents, continued to collect Erica’s government benefits while she was missing. Casey Parsons claimed Erica went to live with her biological grandmother ‘Nan’ who didn’t actually exist. The couple was eventually sent to prison for fraud but in 2016, Sandy Parsons led authorities to Erica’s remains.
Earlier this year, Casey Parsons pleaded guilty to murder and child abuse charges and she was sentenced to life without parole. Prosecutors had been seeking the death penalty against Sandy Parsons and he was scheduled to go trial in April of 2020. That all changed as yesterday Sandy Parsons pleaded guilty to Erica’s murder. Under the terms of the plea deal, Sandy Parsons was sentenced between 33 and 43 1/2 years in prison.

After eight years amid lies and chicanery, justice has finally been delivered for Erica. Barring any outlandish appeals, hopefully, this will be the last we hear out of Casey and Sandy Parsons for a very long time.
