Now it’s time for everyone’s favorite microblogging site, Tumblr. Tumblr was mostly famous for teens and young adults who wanted to enjoy and discuss their various fandoms. It also housed porn, lots and lots of porn, until adult content was purged from the platform. Tumblr has also been used in the past as a place where child porn collectors store and share their stash. To Tumblr’s credit, they often contact the NCMEC to report instances of child porn, like this story.

In April of 2018, the NCMEC reported that a user from Surprise, Arizona was using Tumblr to host child porn images. That account was traced back to 25-year-old Samuel Angel Salgado Jr. Salgado Jr. also allegedly claimed on Tumblr that he raped a 9-year-old who he babysat. He later told investigators that he never babysat anyone.

However…

He admitted to possessing the Tumblr account police were investigating. He told police that his “preferred age range of children was 9-13 years of age,” according to court documents.

Detectives found 33 images and 170 videos on the phone, 10 of which were noted for charging purposes in the case as they allegedly contained child sexual abuse material.

The child sexual abuse material on his phone showed children below the ages of 15, 5 and 2 being sexually abused.

While many teens use Tumblr on a regular basis, if I was still the parent of a teen I would monitor their Tumblr use as many adult-oriented themes such as fetishes and the like are still openly discussed on Tumblr.
