Usually, I’ll blast platforms like Kik and Snapchat for not doing enough to help prevent their predator/child porn problem. Conversely, it seems when I make a post about Tumblr, they’re the ones usually reporting the problem to authorities.
For example, take 62-year-old Brian Wayne Hillyard of Rigby, Idaho. He was recently arrested for allegedly posting child porn to Tumblr. When Tumblr discovered that child porn was being shared on their platform they contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The NCMEC in turn contacted authorities who traced the activity to Hillyard.
Hillyard is said to have admitted to police that he used Tumble to view child porn. According to reports, the child porn that he shared was beyond vile.
Even though Tumblr does a better job than most of trying to corral creepers on their platform, that doesn’t mean that it’s 100% safe for kids. While at least by my estimation, there hasn’t been a high amount of child grooming on Tumblr, they do have some dangerous communities you probably don’t want your kids to be part of.
Also, while not inherently dangerous, Tumblr also has some adult discussion communities that may be a little intense for kids.
