32-year-old Carmelo Vasquez of Fresno, California is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl. Vasquez is said to have communicated with his victim on both Snapchat and MeetMe. It’s alleged that Vasquez picked up the girl at 1am at her home then took her back to his place where he is said to have raped her. He then reportedly dropped the girl back at her home at 6am the next morning. In the meantime, the girl’s parents had reported her missing.
Police believe he may have more victims.
The sheriff’s office says it is possible there are other victims of Vasquez, and are urging anyone with information about him to contact Detective Justin Williamson at (559) 600-8216.
Please check your kids’ devices to see what apps they are using. No 12-year-old should be on Snapchat no matter how many of their friends may be using it. If they’re old enough to use Snapchat, you might want to check their privacy settings to make sure their profiles aren’t open to the public. MeetMe is even worse for kids as it’s essentially an app to find hookups in your area.
