The body of 14-year-old Jose Nunez was found just outside of Bridgeport, Connecticut this week. According to reports, the boy was allegedly strangled to death by 19-year-old Diante Willoughby. While no motive has been given for the murder, as far as I know, it seems to be implied that Willoughby was potentially a sexual predator.
The reason I say this is because Nunez’s father has said that Willoughby had lured his son through Snapchat and that they had been talking for at least a month. Nunez’s father also had something to say to other parents.
“I just want to make it clear to all parents, please take care of your kids with the phones,” he said. “Older guys can easily manipulate children.”
He’s not wrong. Do a periodic check to see who is on your kid’s friends list. Also, check their privacy settings to make sure their profile isn’t open to the public.
Meanwhile, Willoughby has been charged with murder with special circumstances and risk of injury to a child. This means if he is convicted, he’ll be sentenced to life without parole. He is currently being held on $2M bond.
I’ll be following this story and posting updates as they become available.
