Shooting at NC middle school

Shooting at NC middle school

Last week, I was in the midst of one of my mental health breaks. Even so, you would think that a shooting at a middle school would make national headlines. Maybe it was just me but I didn’t hear a peep about this shooting until I resumed writing this week.

Anyway, a 13-year-old boy is accused of discharging a handgun at Hendersonville Middle School in Hendersonville, North Carolina. So far, police have not said whether the shooting was intentional or accidental as it is an ongoing investigation. The bullet struck a 12-year-old girl in the leg. The shooter was said to have almost immediately surrendered to the school’s resource officer. The 13-year-old has been charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury and Weapon on Campus or other Educational Property.

My gut says that this was an accidental shooting. However, the question remains where the 13-year-old procured the firearm. It will be interesting to see if the gun’s true owner is charged with anything but considering this is North Carolina I highly doubt it.

  1. Wow, I live in NC near Hendersonville and I’ve not heard about this. I think you’re probably right; an accident. Most likely obtained the gun from an irresponsible parent but a kid that age might be involved in some gang activity or felt he/she needed protection for whatever reason. I’m going to look further into it.
