Once again, Mike Johnson of PWinsider is reporting that former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio’s trial has been postponed. Del Rio was set to go trial yesterday on pretty serious sexual assault charges.
If you’ll recall, Del Rio was arrested back in May at his San Antonio home and charged with sexual assault. Del Rio allegedly beat and assaulted his then girlfriend for several hours using various objects. At the tine of Del Rio’s arrest, the victim told police that Del Rio made her fear for her life and that she had planned on leaving the area.
The victim made a public apology on social media, but to me, it sounded more like she was responding to a threat than issuing a heartfelt apology, but I digress.
Del Rio’s trial has been rescheduled for May 3rd, 2021. While no definitive reason has been given for the delay, Mike Johnson mentions that COVID-19 postponements have not been uncommon.
I just hope that the postponement doesn’t give Del Rio and his family more opportunities to potentially intimidate anyone else involved with the trial.
UPDATE 5/10/2021: Del Rio’s trial has been delayed again until August 3rd according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.
