Alberto Del Rio, set to go to trial this Monday

Alberto Del Rio set to go to trial this Monday
Jose A. Rodriguez Chucuan aka Alberto Del Rio

I was under the impression that former WWE wrestler Alberto Del Rio, real name Jose A. Rodriguez Chucuan, was set to go to trial for the sexual assault of his girlfriend on August 3rd. I must have been mistaken as Mike Johnson from PWInsider is reporting that Del Rio is set to go to trial on the 2nd, which is this coming Monday. That doesn’t sound like to me that the charges have been dropped, as Del Rio has claimed in multiple interviews.

If you’ll recall, Del Rio is accused of allegedly physically and sexually abusing his then-girlfriend in his San Antonio-area home, very violently I might add. The victim then offered an apology on Instagram for allegedly causing damages to the Del Rio family, but again in my opinion, this apology seemed more like it was coerced than anything.

However, just because the trial is set to begin on Monday, that doesn’t mean Del Rio will go to jail, even though he’s facing a life sentence. There have been rumblings in wrestling circles that the victim may recant. I’m pretty much convinced this is what’s going to happen come Monday. The victim has previously said that she was in fear for her life from Del Rio even after leaving his home. The allegedly coerced apology also makes me think that the victim will not testify.

So, Monday could be a mere formality before Del Rio goes free and potentially goes on to abuse another woman. Or we could all be in for a surprise when a formal criminal trial begins. Personally, I hope it’s the latter.
