There’s not a lot of information about this shooting, which has me more than a little concerned.
However, the day after the Lamar High School shooting in Arlington, another shooting took place at Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas.
All that’s been reported is that the shooting happened on March 21st, after dismissal, one student shot another student in the arm. The shooter approached his victim in a car along with someone else. The wounded student was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover fully. The shooter has been arrested. And that’s pretty much it.
No ages of the victim or the shooter, and no word on what the shooter has been charged with. Not even what type of gun was used in the shooting.
I realize that police often withhold information from the public during an ongoing investigation, but this is the least information I’ve ever seen made public after a school shooting. Typically, we at least hear if the shooting resulted from a fight or if it was a targeted shooting. Even a week after the shooting, we should have more information than this.
I’m not saying that the public should be informed of every little thing that goes on with a police investigation, but we’re potentially talking about children with guns.
I’m also not accusing the Dallas ISD Police of some kind of shadowy cover-up, but I think it’s in everyone’s best interest to keep the public informed. When the public is not informed, especially locally, rumors and gossip can get out of hand.
If you’re from the Dallas area, please let me know if I’m wrong.
