Before we get to the main event, while I was researching this story, I found some information I did not know about the Covenant School shooter, Aubrey Hale.
According to the coroner’s report, Hale was wearing a shirt that had handwriting on it. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has previously said Hale wrote about previous school shooters in her journals. I wouldn’t be surprised if the writing was some kind of Columbine copycat tribute. Eric Harris is said to have had the words ‘Natural Selection’ written on his shirt the day Columbine happened. Other shooters and would be shooters have also worn handwritten shirts while documenting or committing their crimes.
This just furthers my assertion that just about every school shooting since Columbine has just been an imitation. Almost 25 years and nothing has changed.
Anyway, seven Metro Nashville Police officers have been placed on what’s being called ‘administrative assignment’ in the wake of the Covenant School shooter’s manifesto being leaked to right-wing gasbag Steven Crowder. In my previous post, I mentioned how the mayor’s office was launching an investigation into the leak. It seems the investigation has already started to bear fruit, but don’t get your hopes up just yet.
Here’s the statement issued by the MNPD…
“Seven individuals are on administrative assignment (absolutely non-punitive) to protect the integrity of the active, progressing investigation. All seven have full police power. We are not identifying any of the seven by name.”
That sounds a lot like paid desk duty while they still have their badges and guns. Fair enough, it’s still early on in the investigation. However, this also seems to mean that seven police officers could possibly be connected to the leak. What happens when the investigation comes up against a blue wall of silence?
In a perfect world, if an officer is responsible for the leak, they should be removed from their position and not be allowed to be a cop again. But this world isn’t perfect. At best, a suspension without pay might be issued. Even if a police officer is terminated, there’s nothing stopping them from getting another job in another department, being a future security risk waiting to happen.
I have respect for the police. I have family who were police officers in a hard city during hard times. What I don’t have respect for is cops who leak evidence of an ongoing investigation that’s also currently part of a legal battle. And for what? So they can get internet clout on Truth Social because they hate people who are different from them?
Pathetic.
