If there was ever any doubt that Damien Blade Allen, his real name, was a full-fledged columbiner, this should erase it completely. The fixation, the symbolism, the arsenal, and now the history, it’s all there. This isn’t a case of someone misunderstood. This is someone who followed the well-worn path from edgy aesthetic to deadly intent, and he brought others with him.
Allen was arrested in April in Florida and charged with making written threats of mass violence, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and using a communications device to facilitate a felony. The arrest came after deputies discovered he had stockpiled 18 guns, over 12,000 rounds of ammunition, and a disturbing array of police and FBI gear. They found uniforms, tactical vests, a fake badge, and even a 3D-printed body cam. Investigators said Allen was deeply entrenched in planning a mass shooting and was waiting for a trigger to act.
Authorities say he wasn’t working alone. Before the arrest, Allen had been in regular contact with the 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, who carried out a deadly school shooting in December at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. . The two allegedly exchanged fantasies of violence, praised each other’s access to weapons, and declared their twisted affection over shared plans of destruction. While Allen never executed his plan, investigators believe it was not a matter of if, but when.
Now, thanks to newly revealed documents, we know this didn’t begin recently. Four years before his arrest, Allen was already on law enforcement’s radar for disturbing behavior. Back in high school, he reportedly followed a student around campus and made her extremely uncomfortable with comments referencing the Columbine shooters. He described his outfit at the time as having a 1999 vibe, complete with a trench coat and gear strapped on. After trailing her across campus, he allegedly groped her. The battery charge was eventually dropped after Allen agreed to undergo a mental health evaluation and to stay away from weapons.
He didn’t keep that promise.
Former classmates have now come forward, recalling how Allen’s obsession with firearms and school shooters isolated him socially. He wore all black, made people uneasy, and constantly turned conversations back to his fascination with guns and violence. One peer said that even when others tried to talk about something else, Allen would redirect the discussion to weapons or mass murderers. Another said she couldn’t maintain a friendship with someone who sympathized with the mindset of school shooters. She cut contact, dropped out of clubs, and stayed away. That’s the kind of impact he had on those around him.
These weren’t subtle red flags. These were warning sirens that got brushed aside. He wasn’t hiding it. He was proud of it. And now, with his weapons seized, and his name tied to a foiled attack, it’s obvious he was closer to acting than anyone realized.
There is a lesson here, and it’s not just about law enforcement. It’s about the culture that breeds this mindset. If you’re a self-proclaimed columbiner who can’t stop talking about guns, who idolizes killers, who dresses in the aesthetic of mass shooters and alienates everyone around you, you shouldn’t be surprised when people keep their distance. Being an antisocial misanthrope obsessed with death and destruction doesn’t make you deep. It makes you a threat. And eventually, someone is going to notice.
