A student at Meadowcreek Elementary School in Gwinnett County, Georgia, allegedly brought a gun to school and, before classes even started, decided to threaten the toilet. Not figuratively, literally. They told people they were going to shoot the toilet, and then they did. The toilet sadly lost that fight. There’s been no word on if any ‘Skibidis’ were harmed.

At first, staff just thought it was vandalism. Broken toilet, busted porcelain, the usual school-day nonsense. But by Friday, reports started rolling in from students and even a parent that this wasn’t a case of playground mischief. It was a firearm discharged inside the school. The kid had brought a gun from home, pulled the trigger in the bathroom, and thankfully, no one was standing nearby when it happened.

The student has since been arrested and will face charges. Authorities are also looking into whether the parents will face any consequences. And let me just say that in a perfect world, they would. If your elementary-aged kid can stroll out of the house with a firearm and blast it into school plumbing, you’re a huge part of the problem of gun violence in our schools.

No gun should ever be left lying around unlocked. Period. Gun locks are available for free in many jurisdictions, but most don’t use them. Why? Because the ‘responsible gun owner™ fantasy requires the weapon to be at the ready at all times, just waiting for that once-in-a-lifetime chance to play vigilante when someone breaks into their house. The reality is far less glamorous. Their unsecured weapon winds up in the hands of a child, and suddenly the local elementary school bathroom is a crime scene.

And spare me the school district’s boilerplate announcement about “checking your child’s backpack.” The problem isn’t backpacks. It’s parents who treat weapons like accessories and who are more worried about missing their dream shootout than keeping their kids from turning schools into shooting ranges.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. But once again, we’re reminded that America’s obsession with keeping guns close at hand doesn’t just invite tragedy; it practically guarantees it. Today it was a toilet. Next time, we may not be so ‘lucky.’ And the only ones surprised will be the same people still clinging to “mah rights.”

UPDATE 8/26/2025: The mother of the alleged toilet shooter has been charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct for allegedly failing to secure the firearm properly. The 9mm handgun was said to have been stored in a broken lockbox she kept in her closet.

Again, I feel the need to remind the gun-owning public that gun locks can be obtained for free in many municipalities. At the very least there are some that can be bought for five bucks. Like this one. (Sponsored Link)
