A former Seabrook, Massachusetts, police officer has now crossed the line from disgrace to outright depravity. Federal prosecutors have charged 49-year-old John Giarrusso of Haverhill, Massachusetts, with receipt of CSAM, adding to the state charges he already faces for possession and distribution.
Giarrusso was first arrested back in March after investigators traced uploads of graphic CSAM files to his Kik account. Kik is a free messaging app that has been around for years and is notorious for being a haven of sex offenders, pedophiles, CSAM collectors, and child traffickers. Law enforcement has said for more than a decade that Kik’s lack of oversight makes it a breeding ground for this kind of activity.
What makes this case even more grotesque is how Giarrusso practically waved a flag pointing to himself. He called himself “Officer Sexy,” bragged about being a “New England cop,” and shared selfies and even a video holding up a badge while saying he “loves blue.” This isn’t the behavior of a criminal mastermind hiding in the shadows. It’s arrogance, entitlement, and stupidity all rolled into one.
According to the affidavit, Giarrusso’s Kik conversations showed him sharing CSAM files and engaging in disturbing fantasies. He talked about wanting to have sex with other users’ wives and daughters at the same time. He allegedly messaged an underage girl about what he wanted her to wear, and in another conversation he claimed he had already had sex with a 13-year-old. Whether that claim is true or not, the fact that a sworn officer of the law would even say it tells you everything you need to know about his character.
The state charges alone could send him away for years, but the federal charge is even more serious. If convicted, Giarrusso faces a minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, followed by years of supervision. That’s the kind of sentence meant to protect the public from men who can’t be trusted around children, families, or society at large.
And here’s where the accountability question comes in. Giarrusso wasn’t just some anonymous creep hiding behind a username. He was a veteran officer entrusted to uphold the law and protect the community. When police officers commit crimes like this, they don’t just betray their victims; they betray the public’s already fragile trust in law enforcement. Every badge tarnished by someone like Giarrusso makes it harder for the few honest officers to do their jobs and for communities to feel safe reporting crimes.
Giarrusso wore a badge for 11 years and then allegedly used his authority and access to fuel some of the vilest behavior imaginable. There’s no badge shiny enough to cover up this level of rot. But there should be no shield strong enough to protect him from accountability either.
I also think there is no doubt that Officer *ugh* ‘Sexy’ is not a drag queen.
