Sheriff: Parents didn’t report boy missing for a decade:

The crime blogosphere and the media have been alight with the story of Adam Herrman. He’s the boy who disappeared at the age of 11 back in 1999 and hasn’t been seen since. The reason it’s so hot in the news right now is that his adoptive parents just recently reported him missing…after almost a decade.

Before I even get started I see this case quickly degenerating into the Nancy Grace type stories. In case you haven’t figured it out by now I despise Nancy Grace and her ilk.

Anyway, the adoptive parents, Doug and Valerie Herrman, have already retained the services of an attorney. When a family does that it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Their attorney, Warner Eisenbise, says that the Herrman’s ‘rue the fact’ that they didn’t report Adam missing and they feel very ‘guilty’ and were ‘worried’ about him. Never mind the fact that not doing anything for 10 years make them look guilty as hell. And they may not be. Look at the Ramsey’s. Everybody including me thought they were guilty and just recently police cleared them of any wrongdoing. So the Herrman’s may just be guilty of being stupid.

However, the reasons they give for not notifying police are idiotic. They say that Adam would frequently run away and they just assumed that he was either with his biological parents are he was homeless. Let’s go with the homeless part for a second. So you weren’t worried that your 11-year-old son at the time was living out on the streets. Adam is roughly the same age as my son. Luckily I’ve never had to call the police because he was missing. If I did have to I wouldn’t wait 10 damn years.

What I’m curious about is if the Herrmans were receiving any kind of government assistance for being Adam’s foster parents then adoptive parents. That’s where a lot of these cases usually lie.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this one but as soon as it enters into Casey Anthony territory I’m out.

    This goes beyond stupid for me. Something doesn’t smell right when their eleven-year-old disappears and the parents do nothing.

    This was clearly about money. You know damn well they were receiving money for this foster child and if they reported the child missing, the money would stop coming in. Probably another set of lazy ass scum bags milking off the government without any regard for the child they were supposed to be taking care of. Give me a break!

    I believe the boy died after suffering a beating or killed himself because he could not take the horrible treatment that these ghastly “parents” were giving him. The “father” was a mason and worked with concrete. Perhaps the boy’s body was buried in a concrete construction project. kinda like the “Jimmy Hoffa Scenerio”?
    Anyway, Mr. Reynolds has told abould 1/10 of the story here. This blog does not come close to exposing the facts here!! Jeesh!! THEY WERE GETTING THE MONEY THE WHOLE TIME!! 10 YEARS!!!!! Wake up!!!!

    Such a sad story! Uh, hello? He ran away after being beaten with a belt? Why were these parents allowed to adopt anyone? They are monsters, abusive neglectful murders. I hope they go to jail for life and this poor little guy finally receives some justice after all this time.

    Do you really think the Ramseys are innocent because an inept DA said so? Nothing definitive has come forth to prove their innocence, or at least their total lack of complicity. They may not have raped that little girl, or crushed her skull, but they know who did. Patsy died with dark knowledge it probably helped in hastening her death. I think one of the family killed her. That bogus announcement means nothing.

    They didn’t report his absence because the state of Kansas was paying them $700 a month. They continued to fraudulently take this $8400 a year for six or seven years until he turned 18. Had they reported this absence, the other two adopted children might have been taken from them(think another $1400 a month.) It was all about the money. They may have had nothing to do with his disappearance, but they obviously didn’t care about him. He and his siblings were just cash cows.

    Are you sure they were getting subsidies? My husband and I are foster parents, and while kids are in a foster situation with us, we do receive a boarding care payment. However, when we adopted our son, all financial support ended. We cover all expenses on our own, including the expenses related to keeping him in contact with half siblings (we would have adopted them, too if given the option… but, too many daddies and too many paternal grandparents to keep the siblings together).

    My point being, if they were accepting payments and failed to report the child missing, then they are at a minimum guilty of fraud (federal offense?). But, I wonder why they would continue to receive payments if they adopted him as their own child? No excuse for not reporting the child missing. If he was THAT much of a problem, they could have reversed the adoption (horrendous for the esteem of the child). Doesn’t make sense.

    My mom actually had valerie herrman babysit me and some of my sisters and brothers and my mom said that she had anger problems like my mom being like and she said that she left us there at her house with someone. My mom said im surprised that she didnt do that to us she said, and im really grateful she didnt. But thats horrible what valerie did if i was her child i would have kicked her ass! &amp i was only 1 at that time thats super scary

    I read the adoptive parents continued to claim Adam on their tax returns after he disappeared. If they knew there was a chance he was alive would they risk another party coming forward and claiming him as a dependent with the IRS? Ditto with the other fraudelent payments and claims.

    As a matter of fact, they claimed him on their tax forms at least in 2002.

    I want clarify something for you all. Yes, you stop getting checks from the state, only if the child has no problems mentally or physically. I am an adopted child, and my parents stopped receiving payments when they adopted me. Now in this case yes, the Herrmans would get subsudies on Adam for the simple case being that a psychologist supposedly claiming Adam was a risk to himself and everyone around him. So this definitely could be about money, but I am leaning more towards the fact that Mrs. Herrman was the one in DIRE need of pyschological help.

    Everyone failed this little guy! Notice in most all of his photos he has the biggest sweetest smile…seeking approval,there was none from the abuser! Why did no one help him? Why is he dead?? We all know hes dead-she probably beat him,smashed his precious little head and then did away with him…like so much trash!! I hope she rots in prison! Seriously-shes takes him out of school and he “suddenly” disappears?? Yeah, ok, where is he now….hes got to be found, bury his forgotten little body!!! And justice served although it wont bring him back…..

    you are so wrong on this, my niece is not disabled nor does she have mental or physical impairments, in fact she is now overseas doing a semester abroad, and goes to a very big college in PA…she just found out her foster/adoptive father was getting a check for $468 a month in addition to food stamps and free medical for her…so maybe you better check your adoptive families finances..because she is 21 and only just found out

    I found out about this young boy today in our local news paper. It breaks my heart that everyone failed this young boy.
