Man accused of videotaping sexual assaults on 2 teenage girls:

Emo Douchebag II is 23-year-old Richard Alan Chaney of Costa Mesa, California. He’s accused of not only assaulting not just one underage girl who he met on Stickam but two.

The first girl was 14 from Texas whom he met on Stickam. While she was visiting relatives in California she sneaked out of the house and allegedly had sex with Chaney. The assault took place in June of 2008. It wasn’t until almost a year later that the girl’s mother called the Orange County Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team to report Chaney.

While searching Chaney’s house investigators found evidence of another assault of a 17-year-old girl that Chaney met on either Stickam, MySpace or both. He videotaped himself having sex with the 17-year-old while she was unconscious. Now, why does that sound familiar? Hmmmmm? Not only does it sound like the M.O. of serial rapist Andrew Luster it also sounds like the other accused Stickam rapist John Hock.

He also videotaped himself having sex with the 14-year-old too.

Who says there are no child molesters on Stickam? You don’t have to be a middle-aged man to be one.

I’d love to see Stickam get shut down, but at least these pedophiles are stupid enough to tape themselves so it akes them easier to prosecute.

Once again what’s the relevance of him being a so called “emo douchebag”? Why is it that all of your articles start off completely biased? We know being “emo” wasn’t his crime, so is it necessary to start an article off with name calling?

By the way, no it does not sound like the John Hock story, it has nothing to do with it.
You’re comparing a 14 year old girl to a 20 year old inebriated woman.

We shouldn’t blame the medium for the crime. If we look at history, we see many examples of panic because new technology was being used for crimes. No one wants to outlaw telephones anymore just because some people use telephones to plan their crimes or to communicate while committing crimes. People used to fear telephones and automobiles and other new technologies because of concerns over how they would be used.

Another issue is the whole “sex panic” aspect of much of what has been said about the internet in the media. Don’t get me wrong, I am 100% against anyone being a victim any non-consensual sex act and it is much more horrible when an innocent child is the victim. However, young adults under the age of 18 are not children and any laws and policies which fail to deal with the reality that most older teenagers under the age of 18 are sexually active which is completely natural, normal and healthy need to be changed. Additionally since sexual activity is part of their lives and that adult entertainment, the internet, cell phone cameras, digital cameras, camcorders, webcams, etc. are part of their lives it is only to be expected that the two should sometimes mix. We must not act irrationally when a 16 or 17 year old engages in any “cybersex” activities especially since it is completely legal for anyone 18 and older. The biological, physical, psychological, emotional, etc. difference between an 18 year old and a 17 year old is not significant enough to warrant today’s current laws that fail to take into account that there is a world of difference between a small child and a young adult adolescent.

I understand that the activities described in the above article depict crimes (i.e., sexual assault) but the whole implication that this justifies censorship or the banning of certain activities is without merit. After all if it were not for the these crimes being broadcast, the criminals would most likely never have been arrested.

The only sexual activity that the government should outlaw, discourage or regulate is any sexual activity that is unambiguously non-consensual. Additionally we need to stop infantilizing adolescent young adults and stop pretending that they don’t have sex lives, fantasies, interests, etc. just like older adults. In some European countries while the age of majority is 18, they have a legal concept that is similar to the American age of consent laws (which range from 14 to 18 depending upon the state) but go beyond this to encompass a “right” to one’s own body, sexuality and expression. Generally this age is about 15. Perhaps we should implement a similar policy in the US and have it apply to internet expression as well. In this way we shall stop enforcing laws that are more based upon fear, ignorance and religious doctrine and instead have laws based upon science, empirical evidence and rational discussion. We can therefore focus on preventing actual damaging crimes like pedophilia (sexual attraction to prepubescent children) instead of trying to control harmless and normal consensual behavior among young adults.
