Updated: Zhu sentenced to life in prison:

Monday Zhu Haiyang was sentenced to life without parole for the brutal beheading of fellow Virginia Tech student Yang Xin.

If you’ll recall Zhu decapitated Ms. Yang with a kitchen knife in a cafe on the Virginia Tech campus while dozens of stunned witnesses looked on in horror.

The motive behind the gruesome murder was that Ms. Yang rejected Zhu’s romantic advances.

What still amazes me about this story outside of the complete brutality and selfishness of the attack is that by all accounts no one did anything at the cafe to stop Zhu.

You would think that a crowd of people would have been enough to overpower one guy yet here we are.
