Craigslist dumps ads for controversial drink Four Loko, state Sen. Jeff Klein applauds move:

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Four Loko, it used to be a caffeinated malt liquor beverage. In its original form, it was banned by the FDA stating that the amount of caffeine in the drink would mask the effects of how drunk the consumer really was. A series of dangerous drinking incidents involving Four Loko didn’t help either. Its unofficial nickname is blackout in a can.

When the ban went into effect like most black market items a lot of the remaining cans containing the original formula went up for sale on craigslist and we’re being sold for some ridiculous amounts. Now craigslist has removed the ads for Four Loko from all their US sites.

Now I don’t think re-selling cases of Four Loko is against the law however it only took months between the ban and craigslist removing the ads. Yet prostitution and human trafficking are illegal and it took craigslist ten years to close the adult/erotic services section. Not to mention while it’s not as prolific as it used to be on craigslist the prostitution ads are still showing up on unmoderated sections of their site. And for that matter how are they going to be checking their sites for Four Loko? Are they going to *gasp* moderate it?
