Craigslist serial killer confirmed in Long Island

Serial killer theory returns to beach corpses case:

Investigators in Long Island believe that the four female bodies found on their beaches were the work of a serial killer.

As we know Megan Waterman was confirmed to be one of the victims. In addition to Megan Waterman, the other three victims are Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Amber Lynn Costello, 27.

All four women were prostitutes that were advertising their services online which included craigslist.

Police have not released how they were killed and a suspect has not yet been named.

I hate to get on my soapbox at this time but I think that this shows that sites like craigslist and Backpage do not make the women any safer then they would be on the streets.

My prayers and condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims.

This is not a problem with craigslist, or a problem with backpage. This is a problem because prostitution is illegal for no reason other than to satisfy the need of a certain portion of the population to force their morals on others through rule of law. They think prostitution being illegal will somehow SAVE people from doing the job, or that people that will do this job do not deserve the protection of the law. It does not, and they are daughters, sister, lovers, and mothers. As long as there is both demand (and there has been demand since forever, and will be until forever), and women who need the money, it will be so. The only thing these laws accomplish is making these women outlaws on the fringes of society with little social support in the community and next to zero police protection. In this day and age, do you think it would take so many bodies to see a serial killer if the victims of the slaughter were “respected” members of society?

It’s time to change our laws to protect people, instead of pretending making something illegal is a way to protect people from it. Find a major city near you, and look up murder rates, and Jane Doe bodies, and think about how many of them might not be dead if prostitutes did not have to hide from the police. Think about how moral laws are “protecting” our values by letting these people be abused and murdered and saying they deserve it for doing a job that makes it nearly impossible to get proper protection.

To summarize… what I am saying is that if you support prostitution being a crime, you are AIDING AND ABETTING this killer. It’s no different than you hiding evidence against him, cleaning up a crime scene, or hiding a body. Because the laws you support lets this go on, and on, and on.

  Wow, that’s a stretch Plastic Man would be proud of.
  
  If prostitution was legal it would not stop human trafficking. Ask The Netherlands.
  
  It would not stop drug use. Ask Nevada.
  
  And if prostitution was legal it would not stop this guy from killing hookers.
  
  To think otherwise is just you justifying legal prostitution for your own purposes.

No person forced these women into becoming hookers. They are not a side effect of craigslist. The women used that avenue to ply their illegal trade. No one LET them be used or devalued those women choose that for themselves. Life is all about choices and some people do make very bad choices.
