Last week, the conviction of Joseph Cyr in the 2011 murder of Jaymie Adams was upheld by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. Cyr was sentenced to two life sentences for supposedly killing the 26-year-old pregnant mother of four and her unborn child. Jaymie Adams was a prostitute who was being turned out in Oklahoma City on craigslist by her husband Justin Adams. Justin Adams was a person of interest early on in the investigation. Not only was he alleged to be having an affair after his wife went missing but he had also taken out a $100,000 life insurance policy on his wife shortly before her murder. You could be safe in assuming that at this point it would be an open and shut case but it wasn’t to be.

Investigators soon turned their attention to Joseph Cyr. Cyr was said to have been a customer of Jaymie Adams and his DNA was supposedly found inside of her. However, the autopsy report on Jaymie Adams claimed that there was no definite sperm is seen in
the oral, vaginal or rectal swabs.

The only motive the prosecution could come up with is that Cyr “repeatedly intertwines sex and violence” and desires to impregnate women against their wishes. Meanwhile, Justin Adams pleads guilty to manslaughter and only recieves 10-years probation.

As I’ve stated before, I’m not saying that Joseph Cyr wasn’t capable of murdering Jaymie Adams, however, I believe that not only was Joseph Cyr convicted on flimsy evidence but Justin Adams had much more to gain from his wife’s death. While I’m not usually one for conspiracy theories, Cyr’s arrest and conviction feel like he was railroaded. It even seems like the local media in Oklahoma went out of their way to under-report the investigation and trial. To my knowledge, once Cyr was arrested, the local media never questioned anything the investigators and prosecutors claimed about Cyr.

Even in announcing that Cyr’s life sentences had been upheld, the local media appears to be very apathetic when it comes to reporting anything about Cyr. For example, please check the following articles about Cyr’s conviction being upheld.

All of these articles are consistent with the reporting that’s been happening on this story. They’re all quite brief and lacking detail and in the case of Oklahoma City’s own newspaper, The Oklahoman, they relied on an AP wire report rather than doing their own investigating.

In a day when primetime news shows and documentarians alike are trying to find the next wrongly convicted prisoner, why is no one looking into this?
