No criminal charges in Megan Meier’s suicide

Prosecutor: No Criminal Charges in MySpace Suicide:

As expected St. Charles County Prosecutor Jack Banas announced at a press conference earlier today that there will be no criminal files charged in the harassment/suicide death of Megan Meier.

“Their purpose was never to cause her emotional harassment that we can prove,” Banas said. “There’s a difference between what people think or what we may believe the reason was that they created this, it’s what we can prove and what a jury would believe.”

Banas said statements from the neighbor and two teens who participated in the fictitious account couldn’t meet criminal standards for the state’s statutes on harassment, stalking or endangering the welfare of a child.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation lead the investigation after the U.S. Attorney’s Office was contacted by the Meier family, Banas said.

In a perfect world, there would be charges filed against the adults that caused Megan Meier to commit suicide. Then again in a perfect world, adults wouldn’t descend into this kind of behavior then act like it wasn’t their fault.

  1. anyone who has ever been close to a young girl can understand the fragility of her sexuality at this age… to be manipulated by an adult male would make the charges inevitable, why not against this woman?

  2. What a joke that charges were even contemplated. You call someone mean and somehow you are liable for a suicide. Ridiculous. What about the girl just wasn’t right in the head. If calling someone mean leads to that, then someone should’ve been getting mental health help prior…

  3. Maybe theres some sort of law suite ther Meiers can file against the other family.

I am somewhat surprised that a lawyer in their area hasn’t contacted them yet, you hear about people doing those pro-bono cases all the time. Especially, if its gained as much “media attention” as this one has.

  4. Banas did say that any reports that there was sexual content involved in the conversations are erroneous…..
WHAT? Did the idiot even read the police report? DOH, Lori admitted the conversations turned sexual! OMG, he needs to be booted out of office.

  5. Trench, I’m starting to agree with you that MHIC is a hoax. I’m a 51 yr old woman with extensive experience in tech industry and I would not have thought to create that blogspot NOR, if I wanted to get the word out, would I have notified a variety of BLOGGING sites to attract attention. I’d’ve gone right to the major news websites. However, hoax or not, it’s healthy as hell that Joe Citizen is able to vent at MHIC. I have!
