Recently, the state of New Jersey launched a statewide child porn sting that netted 21 arrests. Included in those arrests was 40-year-old Jason Berry from Keansburg, NJ. Berry is accused or allegedly grooming a 14-year-old girl from Louisiana over Snapchat. Berry is also said to have persuaded the girl into sending him explicit photos to him but Berry’s actions were even more depraved than that.
Not only did Berry convince his victim to carve his initials into her leg, but he also sent the pictures he received to the girl’s mother in an effort to humiliate his victim. If this girl was already self-harming then Berry took advantage of a girl who was already vulnerable mentally and essentially tortured her over Snapchat.
Due to COVID-19 and the quarantine, New Jersey officials say that incidents of child grooming have increased on social media. So now, more than ever, do you need to keep an eye on your kid’s social media use. Make sure you know who is on their friends list and make sure their profiles aren’t accessible by the general public. If you don’t, your children could carry the scars from these predators for the rest of their lives.
